Koori Graduate Recruitment & Development Scheme (KGRADS)
What is KGRADS?
The Koori Graduate Recruitment & Development Scheme (KGRADS) is an employment program offered by the Department of Justice to Koori graduates who have completed their degree or are in the final year of their studies.
The objective of this program is to make the transition to a career within the department more accessible to Koori graduates, with an emphasis on investing in their professional development and retaining them.
Graduates are placed in business areas across the department based on their academic disciplines, preferred career path and business needs. Like the VPS GRADS the program includes three separate four month rotations; however two rotations are completed in the Department of Justice and one in either the Department of Human Services (DHS) or the Department of Health (DOH).
On the successful completion of the 12 month program, graduates rotate back to their home department (the department that recruited them), and are exempted into an ongoing VPS Grade 3 position.
Learning & Development
The graduates participate in a Learning & Development program designed to increase their knowledge in a number of different areas, including government structures and processes; public policy training; project management; and professional writing skills.
In addition, all DOJ graduates attend a Welcome Afternoon Tea with the Secretary, a mid-rotation catch-up lunch and undertake a tour of Melbourne Assessment Prison.
Additional Support
All Koori graduates will have access to additional networking opportunities and peer support through the department’s Koori Staff Network (KSN).
