Nominations Open for the 2011 Australian Safer Community Awards
Do you have a project that has made your community more resilient? The Australian Safer Community (ASC) Awards may be the perfect way to promote and recognise it.
The Office of the Emergency Services Commissioner (OESC) is calling for nominations highlighting innovative practices and achievements across the nation that make our communities safer, stronger, more disaster resilient and better prepared to manage emergency situations.
Acting Emergency Services Commissioner Joe Buffone said the awards highlight the continuing commitment of Victorians towards building safer communities.
“Our Office is once again proud to be facilitating the Victorian component of the awards which are a fantastic way to recognise the variety of innovative work happening across the sector,” Mr Buffone said.
There are seven categories based broadly on the type of organisation applying:
- State and Territory, including government-owned business enterprises
- Local Government, single and collective subcategories
- Volunteer and Community Groups (where membership is substantially voluntary)
- Private Sector
- Education and training, including vocational training and research
- Federal (projects which are cross-jurisdictional and/or projects of national significance)
- Projects developed and/or managed by youth (under 18)
While there is no specific award for individuals, they may submit entries in any appropriate category listed above.
“In 2010 we had a record number of applicants and I believe that this year is going to be even bigger,” Mr Buffone said.
The ASC awards are hosted by the Victorian OESC and sponsored by the Australian Government Attorney-General’s Department in conjunction with states and territories
Entries close Friday 1 July, 2011.
