Funding Bids Open for Gambling Research Projects

Researchers can now access funding grants of up to $200,000 as part of the Victorian Government's Grants for Gambling Research Program.

"The Victorian Gambling Research Agenda for 2011 covers topics such as sociology and gambling, natural recovery, product preferences and styles of play, cultural differences in gambling, mental health and gambling, and measurement and trials,” Minister for Gaming, Michael O’Brien said.

He said the grants program funding was part of the Victorian Government's commitment of $150 million over four years for gambling research and treatment.

"We have made the largest financial commitment in Victoria's history to establish the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation to reduce the prevalence and severity of problem gambling in Victoria."

The Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation will be responsible for problem gambling research, developing communication and education strategies and facilitating the provision of counseling and treatment services for problem gambling.

"Tackling problem gambling and helping those who need support requires a coherent and integrated approach that is supported by good evidence," Mr O’Brien said.

Applications will only be considered if they meet the selection criteria and requirements. A copy of the applicant information pack is available from the Victorian Government Tenders System website

Applications closing at 2pm on 8 September 2011.
