New Roadside Signs spread the Safety Message
In a bid to increase road safety awareness and reduce the road toll, the State Government’s introduced new electronic roadside safety signs.
These trailer-mounted variable messaging signs have been adopted to urge Victorian motorists to take care on our roads.
There are already 15 operating on the Calder, Western and Princes Highways – and more are on their way.
Police Minister Peter Ryan says these specific sites have been chosen based on previous crash data, and because they do not have any fixed speed cameras.
“Unfortunately motorists in regional and rural areas are currently disproportionately represented in the state’s road toll,” Mr Ryan said.
Over the Easter holiday period, the electronic signs warned “High Risk Area, Police Enforcing Speed.”
Mr Ryan said this messaging makes it clear to that speeding motorists will be penalised.
“Regardless of whether there are fixed cameras operating on a stretch of road, police will enforce the speed limit with on-the-spot fines and mobile speed cameras to ensure that those who break the speed limit are penalised accordingly,” he said.
Victorian drivers can expect to see more electronic and fixed signs in their future travels.
