New Victoria Police Training Facility Planned

Victoria Police will begin planning the relocation of its Essendon Operational Tactics and Safety Training facility to train new and existing police as well as Protective Services Officers.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Peter Ryan, said the new facility would support the key training facility at the Glen Waverley Police Academy.

He said is was vital the police force had the best facilities to train new and existing officers to help make Victoria safer.

“The government is committed to ensuring Victoria Police has the resources it needs to be a world class police service, and while the current facility has been sufficient, the training needs of Victoria Police will soon outgrow this site,” Mr Ryan said.

“Victoria needs the best police and Protective Services Officers and the provision of training facilities goes hand-in-hand with it,” he said.

The operational Tactics and Safety Training facilities provide:

  • defensive tactics training including a variety of self defence techniques
  • scenario-based training conducted in a ‘village’ type of environment
  • classroom-based presentations and workshops
  • firearms training and tactical assessments.
