Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response - Final Report Released

On 8 February 2011, Premier Ted Baillieu announced a comprehensive review of flood warnings and emergency response efforts to be undertaken in the wake of severe flooding across Victoria in 2010-11.

The Review of the 2010-11 Flood Warnings and Response - Final Report has been released by the Victorian Government on 8 December 2011.

The review, led by Mr Neil Comrie, former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police and current Bushfires Royal Commission Implementation Monitor, has examined the adequacy and efficacy of the state’s arrangements for flood response and recovery, emergency warnings and evacuations.

In addition to seeking advice and input from technical experts in relation to flood management, the review’s work has included extensive consultation with:

  • members of flood-affected communities
  • emergency services agencies
  • related organisations.

The Victorian Government supports or supports-in-principle 90 of the 93 recommendations and has already commerce working on implementing them.

The majority of the final report’s recommendations will be implemented through the emergency management Green Paper process. Minister for Water, Peter Walsh will progress the recommendations relating to flood predictions and modelling.

The report highlights the strong commitment of numerous Victorian paid and volunteer emergency service workers.
