Search for Neighbourhood Watch State Manager
The search for a Neighbourhood Watch State Manager is underway as part of the Victorian Government's commitment to restore Neighbourhood Watch and support community crime prevention initiatives.
Minister for Crime Prevention, Andrew McIntosh said the appointment of a State Manager by the Board of Neighbourhood Watch Victoria is an important first step towards a strengthened Neighbourhood Watch program that would engage communities to deliver local crime prevention solutions.
"The Neighbourhood Watch State Manager will lead the reinvigoration of Neighbourhood Watch by developing a clear vision for its future," he said.
The State Manager would be responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with state and local government, including Victoria Police and the Department of Justice's new Community Crime Prevention Unit.
Victoria has more than 1300 Neighbourhood Watch areas that service close to a million households across the state. An estimated 2.8 million Victorians – almost half the state's population – live in Neighbourhood Watch areas.
"The new State Manager will work to support and guide the work of Neighbourhood Watch volunteers across the state to ensure the organisation continues its important work helping to prevent crime and improve community safety," Mr McIntosh said.
The funding for Neighbourhood Watch is part of a $39 million budget allocation to support crime prevention initiatives, including $29 million for a Community Infrastructure Fund and a Community Safety Fund, and $13.5 million for a zero-tolerance approach to graffiti.
