Smart Way to Find Out About Teen Drinking Law

A new smartphone app is now available to help parents and young people understand new Victorian laws regarding alcohol and minors.

The Teen Drinking Law app is currently available for download on iPhones, Android and other smartphone devices will be available in the coming weeks. It guides and educates parents and young people, as they weigh up the risks involved in underage drinking.

The app includes three 'choose your own adventure' party scenarios:

  1. Parents and guardians whose children will be attending a party where alcohol will be served.
  2. Parents and other adults who are planning to host a party for under-18s.
  3. Young people attending a party where alcohol will be available.

It also features a fictional party attended by seven young people, who are all making very different decisions about their drinking. The app then plays out the consequences of the diverse choices they make.

The app makes it easier for users to find help with alcohol issues, with 'one-tap' connection to support phone numbers and links to a number of supplementary websites and organisations in Victoria.

The app release is a result of last November’s initiative which included a change of law, making it illegal to supply alcohol in a private home to anyone under 18, unless their parent or guardian has given permission.

Download the app now for iPhone, iTouch and iPad from iTunes
