Taking a Hands-on Approach to Fire Safety
Victorians who use Facebook or smart phone social media platforms are encouraged to check their fire readiness online in time for the coming summer.
FireReady software for iPhone and Facebook has been released, giving the public a chance to install and try the free software before the summer heat wave hits.
Software is also planned for Blackberry, iPad and Android devices.
The applications encourage users to undertake a five-minute assessment to gauge their level of fire readiness without having to visit the CFA website.
They also deliver real-time emergency information and fire safety advice from the CFA directly to users' mobile phones.
The applications have been designed to pull information from the CFA website so users can receive current and credible updates, warnings and advice in real-time. Warnings, updates and advice and the location of fires are plotted on Google Maps using part of the One-Source One-Message feed.
The content of the CFA messages is not altered in any way; it is simply rebroadcast.
Check how fire ready you are by downloading the free iPhone app to get the latest warnings direct from the CFA command centre.
