Victoria Celebrates Outstanding Work of CFA Volunteers
Deputy Premier and Minister for Bushfire Response, Peter Ryan recently visited the CFA at Coldstream as part of 'CFA Sunday' to thank the members for their hard work and dedication.
Mr Ryan said CFA volunteers played an important role in the community and urged all Victorians to visit their local CFA to thank the volunteers and seek their advice on preparing for this fire season.
"It is important for all Victorians to acknowledge CFA Sunday as it recognises one of the best and largest volunteer-based emergency service organisations in the world," Mr Ryan said.
"Local volunteer agencies such as Coldstream Fire Brigade are integral to the safety of all Victorians and are the backbone of Victoria's emergency service response."
Coldstream CFA Brigade, which has been running for 48 years as a stand-alone fire brigade, was one of more than 400 CFA fire brigades opening its doors to the public on CFA Sunday.
"Most people have a general idea of what to do in a bushfire but haven't practiced their plans, thought about what could go wrong, or made a backup plan – all of which are critical to survival," Mr Ryan said.
"People die trying to leave their homes at the last minute during a fire – leaving early is the safest way to survive a bushfire.
If you do not have a plan, the CFA can help in a variety of ways. Visit the CFA website or call the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
Attend a local FireReady Victoria meeting to learn how you and your family can plan your survival. Held throughout the fire season, online meetings provide valuable information about bushfire planning and preparation.
