Office of the Special Investigations Monitor

The Office of the Special Investigations Monitor was created by section 4 of the Major Crime (Special Investigations Monitor) Act 2004 which commenced operation on 16 November 2004.

This Act is one of three acts enacted by the Parliament in 2004 to address police corruption and organised crime. The other acts are the Major Crime Legislation (Office of Police Integrity) Act 2004 and the Major Crime (Investigative Powers) Act 2004.

On 15 December 2009 Leslie Charles Ross was appointed Special Investigations Monitor (SIM) by the Governor-in-Council for an initial period of two years. The appointment of Mr Ross followed that of David Anthony Talbot Jones who was first appointed SIM on the 14 December 2004 and who retired on 14 December 2009.
