Weapons Regulation of Weapons in Victoria

In Victoria, weapons are regulated based on the danger they pose if used inappropriately.

The Control of Weapons Act 1990 provides the framework for controlling the sale, possession, carriage, and use of weapons (other than firearms) and body armour. The Act divides weapons into four basic categories:

  • prohibited weapons
  • controlled weapons
  • dangerous articles
  •  body armour.

There are specific restrictions on selling, possessing, carrying or using the different categories of weapons.

New laws have been introduced to target knife crime and other weapons offences.

For more information including FAQs and specific information for retailers refer to New Weapons Laws.
