Who is Involved in a Firearms Appeals Committee Hearing
Witnesses
You may bring people to the hearing to support your appeal. If you need to bring witnesses and they need proof of attendance for their employers, a letter can be provided. In exceptional circumstances, the Committee can arrange for a witness to be placed under subpoena. A subpoena is a legal writ that orders a person to attend the hearing. A period of at least 21 working days notice is required. To request the issuing of a subpoena, you must provide details including the full name of the witness you wish to place under subpoena, the residential address of where the subpoena is to be served, and (if required) an adequate description of the document or object you would like the witness to bring as evidence for the hearing.
Interpreters
If you require an interpreter, it is up to you to arrange one. Witness and interpreter expenses are your responsibility.
Legal representation
It is up to you whether or not you arrange a lawyer for the hearing. If you do, please provide the full name your legal representative to the Committee Secretary before the hearing.
