Fines

If you receive a fine, you must either pay it or take other action by the due date on the fine. If you ignore the fine, fees will be added and severe sanctions can be applied.

To find out how to pay and what your options are, go to the Victorian Government Fines website via web links on the right.

Infringements Act

In Victoria, there are more than 1800 offences that can be dealt with as infringements (fines). The Infringements Act 2006 provides a framework for issuing and enforcing infringement notices.

The Act has a range of sanctions for people who fail to pay their fines, such as:

  • wheel clamping
  • suspension of driver’s licence and motor vehicle registration
  • seizure and sale of personal property.

The Act also has safeguards for people who are disadvantaged, including the homeless, and people with an intellectual disability or a mental health condition.
