Problem Gambling
For some people, gambling can change from being enjoyable entertainment to an issue they cannot manage. When that happens, gambling can play too big a role in a person's life and hurt them, their family, friends or the people who care for them.
The government is working with the community, industry, employers and employees to reduce the prevalence and severity of problem gambling.
Major problem gambling initiatives currently include:
- the Gambler’s Help 24-hour, confidential 1800 858 858 telephone helpline
- the Gambler's Help Online website, which provides information, resources and online counselling
- face-to-face counselling by Gambler's Help at locations across Victoria
- a range of community education programs, awareness campaigns and resources
- the Problem Gambling website, which provides self-help information to assist problem gamblers and their family and friends
- the Problem Gambling Professionals website, which provides information for professionals to assist them to identify, treat and refer problem gamblers to specialist services
- the Take the Quiz website, which helps you to assess whether you or someone you know may have a problem with gambling.
