Changes in Wagering within the Racing Industry - 2005 report
A study into the changing face of wagering in the Victorian racing industry was commissioned by the Victorian Gambling Research Panel. As a result of this study, the research report Changes in Wagering within the Racing Industry was published in September 2005.
In particular, the study observed and analysed issues relating to:
- the emergence of new technologies, including mobile telephones, interactive television and the internet
- the co-location of gaming facilities with wagering
- the current and likely future impact of these changes on the racing industry.
The researchers also considered how these changing patterns of participation relate to measures for minimising:
- the risk of increasing problem gambling behaviours
- attracting vulnerable people to gamble when gambling would not otherwise be of interest to them.
