Responsible Gambling

Responsible gambling is about minimising harm caused by problem gambling while accommodating those who gamble without harming themselves or others. A number of measures and initiatives have been introduced to foster responsible gambling by:

  • engaging the community and key stakeholders in decision making about gambling
  • encouraging gamblers to play safely without harming themselves or others
  • promoting good customer service practices by gambling providers.

Responsible Gambling Advocacy Centre

The Responsible Gambling Advocacy Centre (RGAC) is funded by the Victorian Government to: 

  •  build the capacity of the community to make informed choices about gambling
  •  create links across the sector and offer accurate, clear information and gambling resources
  •  provide stakeholders with opportunities to come together and discuss issues.

Responsible Gambling Ministerial Advisory Council

The Responsible Gambling Ministerial Advisory Council advises on:

  • social concerns and economic issues related to problem gambling
  • responsible gambling policies, initiatives and research
  • frameworks for responsible gambling programs.

Responsible gambling measures

Victorian gambling legislation and regulations contain a range of measures that foster responsible gambling. They relate to:

  • environmental features of gaming areas
  • design and distribution of gaming machines
  • gambling providers’ customer service practices
  • community input into gaming regulation decisions.
