Review of Victorian Sports Betting Regulation

Since the passage of the Gambling and Racing Legislation Amendment (Sports Betting) Act 2007, there have been considerable changes in the sports betting industry and substantial market growth.

This growth has led to concerns about increased integrity risks, with the potential to undermine public confidence in sporting events. Consequently, and in the wake of the investigation by the International Cricket Council on match fixing in cricket, Mr Des Gleeson, former chairman of stewards for Racing Victoria, was appointed to conduct a review of Victorian sports betting regulation.

The aim of the review, completed mid 2011, was to provide advice on whether further measures could be adopted to enhance the existing regulatory regime.
