Imprisonment
Imprisonment is usually the first thing that springs to mind when listing the consequence for being found guilty of a crime by the court. There are, of course, a number of sentencing options, one of which is imprisonment.
Imprisonment occurs when the sentencing orders of the court commit a person into custody at a prison for a specified period of time. This may include a sentence order where part of the conditions must be met in the community after time served in prison. This incorporates Combined Custody and Treatment Order where drug treatment may begin in custody and is mandatory on release, or a Partially Suspended Sentence where a prisoner must serve jail time, and then not commit any offence whilst living in the community.
Corrections Victoria is responsible for the administration of prison sentences handed down by the courts.
