Drink Spiking Laws
In 2005, the Ministerial Council of Drug Strategy requested that the Model Criminal Code Officers' Committee of the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General review of the criminal law relating to drink spiking, calling for public submissions. The Discussion Paper examined:
- how far existing offences in Australian jurisdictions criminalise drink spiking
- the historical basis for relevant criminal provisions in each state and territory jurisdiction
- reforms and initiatives implemented by states and territories to date.
The discussion paper recommended a drink spiking offence (without further intent). For further information, download the Drink Spiking Discussion Paper.
