East Mildura Community Partnership Project
The East Mildura Community Partnership Project was developed in response to the Victorian Indigenous Affairs Framework (October 2006).
The objectives of the project are to improve the welfare and safety of Koori children and families by improving:
- maternal health and early childhood health and development
- literacy and numeracy
- VCE completion or equivalent qualification and develop pathways to employment.
The Department of Justice works in partnership with Commonwealth and Victorian Government departments and agencies, as well as members of the Koori community, local service providers and local government to achieve these objectives.
Priorities to ensure the success of the project include:
- regular consultation with, and involvement of the Koori community, at all levels and at all stages of the decision making process
- development of a governance framework that promotes transparency, through sturdy principals, protocols and processes
- mapping existing resources, networks and services that can be enhanced through the project, to minimise duplication and identify gaps in service delivery that need to be addressed
- incorporating culturally-based enhancements into processes and services to increase the relevance of the project and its outcomes to the local community
- maintaining open lines of communication between stakeholders, to strengthen relationships and ensure government, community and businesses maintain focus and continue to work together towards a common goal.
The East Mildura Community Partnership Project is managed by a Project Officer based in the Mildura Justice Centre, within the Loddon Mallee region of Justice.
