Privacy

As part of their daily operations, all Victorian public sector organisations, statutory bodies and local councils are required to collect and store personal information about Victorians. Because this is often information about someone's health or other personal details, the Victorian Government has enacted privacy laws, which regulate how this information is obtained, used and disposed of by the public service and other government bodies.

Here you will find an overview of the Victorian privacy laws, with a list of procedures when using someone's health and personal information. In this section you will be able to find information on the following topics:

  • the people and organisations affected by Victoria's privacy laws
  • how the privacy laws work
  • the Department of Justice's privacy policy
  • accessing personal information
  • making a complaint.
