Feedback, complaints and compliments

The department welcomes feedback about its services and staff. We are committed to responding fairly and within a reasonable time.

Please direct any feedback to the person you originally dealt with. If you don't feel comfortable talking to that person or they are unable to resolve your concern, you can formalise your feedback by selecting the most appropriate process below.

Any written feedback directed to the department will be acknowledged in writing within three business days. If you require a further response, we will phone or write to you within 20 business days. Acknowledging or responding may take longer if your feedback is not in English.

If your service has not been listed, or you can't decide which process to use, use our online Department of Justice feedback form.

If you require an interpreter, call the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) National on 131 450 and ask to speak with the Department of Justice on 1800 365 100.

Information on how to provide feedback to the Department of Justice is available in Arabic, Chinese, Croation, Serbian, Turkish and Vietnamese on this translations page.

Prisoner health feedback

Everyone has a right to good health care. If a prisoner has a complaint about  their health care, they can complete a complaint form and speak to the person in charge of the health services at their prison. Local resolution is encouraged in the first instance. If the health service at the prison cannot fix the prisoner’s complaint, the prisoner can complain to Office of the Health Services Commissioner (External link) either in writing (30/570 Bourke Street, Melbourne, VIC 3000) or via the prison phone system.

Office of the Health Services Commissioner is independent and helps to resolve complaints for all health services in Victoria.
