Withdrawing an Application
You can withdraw your application for a Working with Children (WWC) Check at any time before the department issues you with a WWC Check card or, an Interim Negative Notice.
If the Department of Justice seeks further information from you to assist in assessing your application and you do not provide that information within the time given, the department will consider your application withdrawn.
The department must notify your employer, volunteer organisation or agency (where known) of the withdrawal of an application.
If your application has been withdrawn it is an offence, with criminal penalties to continue to undertake ‘child-related work’, as defined in section 9 of the Working with Children Act 2005 or commence another type of ‘child-related work’.
If you decide to apply again in the future, you will need to submit a new WWC Check application. You will also need to pay a new application fee if your ‘child-related work’ is for profit or gain.
How do you withdraw your application?
You need to mail your request to the department. Your request needs to include your name, address, date of birth, Application Receipt number and your signature. You do not have to give reasons for withdrawing your application.
The department will acknowledge your request in writing and will notify your employer, volunteer organisation or agency (where details are known).
Your application will be taken as withdrawn from the date your letter is received by the department. WWC Check application fees are non-refundable.
What will happen to your information?
Your file will be listed as ‘withdrawn’ and your information will be stored in a secure location and disposed of in accordance with the Public Records Act 1973. Ongoing checking of relevant offences or findings will not be undertaken.
