What Happens Next
If you have a specified offence or a relevant disciplinary finding against your name, you may be asked to provide further information to assist the Department of Justice to process your Working with Children (WWC) Check application.
Once your application has been processed, you will be given either:
- A WWC Check card, if you pass the WWC Check and can undertake ‘child-related work’. If a relevant change in your circumstances occurs as defined by Section 20 of the Working with Children Act 2005, your eligiblility to hold a WWC Check card will be re-assessed. You need to advise your employer or volunteer organisation and the department of the relevant change, in writing, within seven days.
or - An Interim Negative Notice when the department is not satisfied that you should be issued with a WWC Check card.
If you receive an Interim Negative Notice, you can make a submission to the department explaining why you believe you should pass the WWC Check.
If the department subsequently assesses that you should pass the Check, you will be given a WWC Check card. If the department decides you should fail the Check, you will be issued with a Negative Notice. You cannot undertake ‘child-related work’ even if you are directly supervised.
If you receive a Negative Notice, you may appeal the decision to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
