Child-related Occupational Fields

The Working with Children (WWC) Check applies to work that is in connection with the services, bodies, places or activities listed below. The 20 child-related occupational fields are:

  • child protection services
  • child care services (including centre-based long day care, family day care, in-home care, occasional care and outside school hours care)
  • children's services (that are required to be regulated under the Children’s Services Act 1996 including kindergartens or preschools)
  • educational institutions
  • out of home care services, remand centres, youth residential centres, youth supervision units or youth justice centres or probation services under the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005
  • refuges or other residential facilities used by children
  • paediatric wards of public, private or denominational hospitals as defined in the Health Services Act 1988
  • clubs, associations or movements (including cultural, recreational or sporting nature) that provide services or conduct activities for children or whose membership is mainly comprised of children
  • religious organisations
  • baby sitting or child minding services arranged by a commercial agency
  • fostering children
  • providing publicly funded or commercial transport service specifically for children
  • coaching or tuition services of any kind for children
  • counselling or support services for children
  • overnight camps for children
  • school crossing services
  • providing commercial entertainment or party services for children that are not merely incidental to, or in support of, other business activities
  • providing commercial gym or play facilities for children that are not merely incidental to, or in support of, other business activities
  • providing commercial photography services specifically for children that are not merely incidental to, or in support of, other business activities
  • commercial talent or beauty competitions for children that are not merely incidental to, or in support of, other business activities.
