Ongoing Checking
During the 5 years your Working with Children (WWC) Check card is valid, your criminal history will be regularly checked. In the event there is a new relevant charge or offence made against you Victoria Police will notify the Department of Justice. The out of home carers Suitability Panel and the Victorian Institute of Teaching also notifies the department of new relevant findings made against you. In light of this information the department will re-assess your eligibility to hold a WWC Check card.
You are also required by law to inform your employer, agency or volunteer organisation and the Department of Justice in writing within 7 days of being charged with or found guilty of a new relevant offence.
If you do not comply with this obligation, you may to subject to criminal penalties.
To ensure the department can contact you, you must advise the department of any change to your name, address or phone number.
