Work Experience Opportunities
The Department of Justice (DOJ) offers work experience to school students throughout Victoria.
Who can apply for work experience?
The Department of Justice offers secondary school and further education (TAFE and university) students the opportunity to gain practical knowledge and experience in a workplace like DOJ, through their Work Experience Program.
How to apply
The student or their school or university should send a letter to Human Resources at least six weeks prior to their intended start date, which should include the student's intended start date. The letter should include the following information:
- the student's intended start date
- any key areas of intent they may have
- student number, name, school contact details and student grade
- completed Department of Education (Victoria) Work Experience Arrangement form (secondary students only)
- indemnity agreement (university and TAFE students only).
The department will let the student know if the placement can be arranged as quickly as possible, and then provide details of the relevant staff member to contact about the placement.
On the job, health and safety
All students should wear smart casual dress when on work experience. Secondary school students will generally receive $5 a day payment during their time at the department, but higher education students are generally not paid. All students will have to adhere to the same occupational health and safety requirements as the departments' regular employees, however the department is only liable for Workcover claims from secondary school students. Higher education students will need to provide an agreement indemnifying the department against any Workcover claim.
