Championship Moves, On The Move!

The Victorian Government’s latest campaign to curb alcohol-fuelled violence is on the move, travelling the state in a colourful bus to deliver its anti-alcohol message.

The first stop for the Championship Moves Roadshow was Melbourne, with the campaign bus rolling into Federation Square yesterday.

Stepping off the bus were high profile football personalities and campaign supporters Sam Mitchell, Adam Simpson, Nathan Thompson, Brian Taylor, Danny Frawley and Michael Roberts.

Acting Premier Rob Hulls and Police Minister Bob Cameron today helped launch the roadshow.

Mr Cameron said the campaign will support police operations during AFL finals, reinforcing the message that the community has a role to play in helping to stamp out violence.

“I call on all those heading out with their mates to heed the message of the Championship Moves campaign – real champions look after their mates, especially as the state gets ready for AFL finals fever,” Mr Cameron said.

Yesterday’s community event is the first in a series promoting the campaign and entertaining attendees with giveaways, handball competitions, and footy skills sessions.

Mr Cameron said there were no better people to help deliver this message than real life champions, such as AFL coaches and players.

“Sporting clubs have a great culture of friendship, discipline and leadership, and on the field people learn to look out for their team mates. This is the same philosophy of the Championship Moves campaign.”

The roadshow bus carrying football players and senior coaches will also travel to Ballarat, Bendigo and Lorne.
