DOJ Annual Report Now Online

The 2008–09 annual report of the Department of Justice has been tabled in Parliament and is now available online.

The report highlights the department’s achievements over the past 12 months to deliver a high-performing justice system to the Victorian community and provides audited financial statements. In a tough economic environment, the department recorded an operating surplus of $1.1 million.

Key events marked in the report include the release in October 2008 of Justice Statement 2, the response to the February bushfires and the Royal Commission, and preparation for the coming fire season. Also highlighted is the department’s work in addressing alcohol-related violence, problem gambling and road safety. A chronicle of the year records achievements in dealing appropriately with offenders, supporting victims of crime, championing human rights, sustaining Victorian racing, modernising the law and judicial process and protecting consumers.

In line with environmental best practice, the Department of Justice prints minimal quantities of the annual report. The full report is available online and is accessible throughout the Victorian community.
