Hot Water Bottles and Disposable Lighters in CAV Firing Line

Hot water bottles and disposable lighters have copped a bit of heat recently with both products being intensely scrutinised by Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV).

CAV is ridding our shelves of dangerous products, with more than 2240 items seized in a five-week blitz.

Inspectors visited 93 traders in Clayton, Mount Waverley, Moorabbin, Dandenong, Springvale, Frankston, Croydon and Box Hill.

Hot water bottles and disposable lighters were the key items targeted during the blitz on importers, wholesale and retail outlets across Melbourne.

Consumer Affairs Minister Tony Robinson said the State Government “is taking action to protect Victorian consumers from the dangers of dodgy products by imposing and enforcing strict safety standards on goods available for sale.”

“Hot water bottles and lighters for sale in Victoria must comply with mandatory safety standards because they pose significant risks of burns and fire hazards,” Mr Robinson said.

Non-compliant importers, wholesalers and retailers run the risk of prosecution and fines of more than $70,000.
