New Tankers for CFA
The firefighting capacity of Victoria’s CFA will be strengthened by the addition of 53 new Ultra Light Tankers to its existing fleet.
The contract to deliver the new tankers has been awarded to family-owned Victorian business, Bell Environment.
Emergency Services Minister Bob Cameron said the new tankers will protect Victorian families as well as Victorian jobs.
“Not only will the tankers be used on the front line in protecting the community, they will also bolster a family business running successfully for 40 years,” Mr Cameron said.
“Delivering the new tankers will also support Victoria’s manufacturing industry – each tanker has 925 pieces of nuts, bolts, rivets and screws, 600 meters of wires and cables and a total of 240 hours spent on engineering, testing, fabricating and assembling.”
The new tankers will be rolled out progressively over the remainder of this year and into mid-2010.
Mr Cameron said the new fleet of Ultra Light Tankers will give the CFA a total of 69 new tankers.
“An earlier contract for 16 tankers has been delivered, with those tankers now in service and well received by CFA volunteers and the community,” he said.
Keys to five of the new vehicles have already been handed over, one each for Weerite, Simpson, Corangamite, Yea and the Region 12 Fire Brigades.
