Stop and Think About Gambling

The State Government is asking young Victorian men to stop and think about their gambling habits.

The new problem gambling campaign targets men aged 18 – 24, a group identified through independent research as at high risk of excessive gambling.

Gaming Minister Tony Robinson said the campaign warns young men that gambling irresponsibly could come at the cost of a fun and active social life.

“Many young men may not think their gambling is a problem, but if you’re stuck at home while your mates are out having fun because you’ve blown your money on gambling, then it’s time to stop and think because your gambling’s stopping you from enjoying your life,” Mr Robinson said.

As well as television, radio, online and newspaper ads, the campaign includes an online quiz.

The quiz enables people to calculate how much they are spending on gambling and assess their risk of developing a gambling problem based on their behaviour.

Mr Robinson said the State Government’s problem gambling campaigns send the positive message that it is possible to take control.

“We also want people to know there is a range of support services available in Victoria, encouraging problem gamblers and their families and friends to seek the help they need,” he said.

Support services include access to direct counselling, internet-based support tools, and the 24-hour Gamblers Help line.
