Zero Tolerance for Family Violence

The Ballarat Football and Netball League has taken a stance against family violence by throwing its support behind the State Government’s Enough campaign.

League players donned white arm bands during the weekend’s semi-final action to promote the campaign and send a strong message that family violence will not be tolerated.

Deputy Premier and Attorney General Rob Hulls commended the Ballarat Football and Netball League for taking action.

“Sporting organisations help foster positive attitudes and teach people from a young age about respect, teamwork and the importance of looking after yourself and others,” Mr Hulls said.

“Non-violent and respectful role models help to shape the attitudes and behaviours of children and other men, including peers, colleagues and friends.”

In a joint campaign with Ballarat Health, the League showed its support  by:

  • inclusion of Enough advertising in the Finals Footy Records
  • placement of campaign posters and flyers in the grandstand
  • selling white ribbons and bands on game days.

Mr Hulls said the Enough campaign sends a clear message that Victoria has had enough of family violence.

“Family violence is the leading contributor to death, disability and illness in Victorian women aged 15-44 and we recognise the importance of working with partners, the industry and the community in raising awareness and changing community attitudes to family violence,” he said.
