Victims Support Agency

Victims Support Agency (VSA) within the Department of Justice represents victims of crime and coordinates a whole-of-government approach to services for victims. It funds statewide services to provide counselling and practical assistance to help victims of violent crime recover from the effects of crime and is pivotal in linking the service system so victims don't need to continuously repeat their story at different agencies.

The Victims of Crime Helpline (1800 819 817) is staffed by specially trained Victim Support Officers and is open between 8:00am and 11:00pm weekdays, except public holidays. The Victims Support Agency also funds a network of Victims Assistance and Counselling Program agencies throughout metropolitan and regional areas.

The Victims Support Agency has a central role in bringing key stakeholders together to learn, exchange information and work in partnership. Development of these partnerships and protocols ensures quick and appropriate responses by police, justice and human service agencies, and best assists victims of crime.

Fulfilling the lead role in promoting quality services to victims of crime, the Victims Support Agency has a strong research program linked to national and international developments in victims support.

Victims Support Agency staff provide information seminars about services for victims of crime. Information kits are also available. To request an information kit or enquire about a seminar, please contact the Victims of Crime Helpline on 1800 819 817.
