Office of the Special Investigations Monitor

The Office of the Special Investigations Monitor was created by section 4 of the Major Crime (Special Investigations Monitor) Act 2004 which commenced operation on 16 November 2004.

This Act is one of three acts enacted by the Parliament in 2004 to address police corruption and organised crime. The other acts are the Major Crime Legislation (Office of Police Integrity) Act 2004 and the Major Crime (Investigative Powers) Act 2004.

On 14 December 2004 David Anthony Talbot Jones was appointed Special Investigations Monitor by the Governor-in-Council for an initial period of three years. Mr Jones has since been re-appointed for a further period.
