Our Executive

The department brings together government activities concerned with reform, administration and enforcement of the law in Victoria. This includes:

• the police force
• the court and prison systems
• tribunals that protect citizens' rights
• emergency services
• the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

The department also oversees:

• the regulation of gaming and racing
• liquor licensing and trade measurement
• drafting of new legislation
• support for the government with legal advice.

The Justice Executive Committee is made of up the Department of Justice Secretary and eight Executive Directors. There are also two Commissioners.
