Penny Armytage, Our Secretary

 

Ms Armytage is Secretary of the Department of Justice, one of ten state government departments in Victoria, Australia. She oversees and administers the entire department which has 5,913 staff across 47 business units.

Ms Armytage reports to elected ministers responsible for the following six portfolios:

  • the Attorney-General and Minister of Racing
  • the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, and the Minister for Corrections
  • the Minister for Gaming and Minister for Consumer Affairs

Qualifications

Ms Armytage graduated from Preston Institute of Technology in 1976 with a Bachelor of Social Work.

Work History

Prior to her current role, Ms Armytage was Executive Director, Operations Division, Department of Human Services (DHS).  Before that she served in a variety of leadership roles including Commissioner for Correctional Services for the Department of Justice from 1999 to 2002 and Assistant Director, Protection and Care for DHS from 1995 to 1998.

Career Achievements

Ms Armytage has a diverse range of practice and management experience and has been a frontline worker, a supervisor and an executive in both the government and non-government sector. She has been a senior executive in the Victorian Public Service for the past 16 years.
