Justice Disability Scholarship Scheme

The Department of Justice Disability Action Plan 2005-2008 (DAP) was launched in December 2005. The DAP was developed in collaboration with the disability sector comprising people with a disability, consumer and advocacy organisations representing the rights and interests of people with a disability, the Victorian Disability Advisory Council and employees of the Department of Justice with a disability.

The Plan makes a number of provisions designed to assist people with a disability gain increased access to personal development and employment opportunities. One such provision is the establishment of a scholarship scheme for the award of a two-year scholarship for a justice-related course to tertiary students with a disability.

The scholarships will assist the successful applicants to gain tertiary qualifications in a justice-related field and to enhance their employment opportunities either within the Victorian public service or any other area of interest to them.

The first scholarship under the scheme was awarded to the successful applicant in June 2007. The number of scholarships awarded was increased from one to three in 2008. There will be three scholarship awards to full-time or part-time tertiary students with a disability in 2009.

The closing date for the disability scholarship application is Friday, 27 February, 2009.
