Our Vision
Growing Victoria Together – the Victorian Government’s vision
Growing Victoria Together 2 is a 10 year vision that articulates what is important to Victorians and the priorities that the State Government has set to build a better society. It is based on careful discussion and consultation with many groups in the community.
The Victorian Government's vision is that by 2010 Victoria will have:
- a thriving economy
- quality health and education
- a healthy environment
- caring communities
- a vibrant democracy.
The Department of Justice plays an important role in the delivery of Growing Victoria Together 2 by helping to build:
- friendly confident and safe communities
- a fairer society that reduces disadvantage and respects diversity
- more quality jobs and thriving innovative industries across Victoria
- greater public participation and more accountable government.
Our Vision
In line with Growing Victoria Together 2 the department’s vision is for a safe, just, innovative and thriving Victoria, where rights are protected and diversity embraced.
We will achieve this by working together with the community and other government agencies to:
- protect the rights and freedoms of all people through a fair and just system of criminal justice
- provide an accessible, equitable and responsive civil justice system
- preserve civil order through the prevention and detection of crime
- protect individuals and property through the prevention and suppression of fires, flood and major incidents
- provide coordinated emergency services
- provide a safe, just and humane correctional system
- provide an effective framework for fair trading and business affairs
- regulate policy and advocacy services to achieve a responsible, safe and sustainable environment for gambling and racing.
Our Mission
To provide a Justice policy and organisational management focus for the Victorian Government.
