Effective Management of Intoxicated Young People in Entertainment Venues

It can be difficult to handle intoxicated young people and young adults.

What is the problem?

  • There is a culture of using alcohol and other drugs to enhance recreation and entertainment. While that culture is not exclusive to young people, it is particularly prevalent among them.
  • Many young people consume alcohol and other drugs deliberately in order to become intoxicated, which places them and other people at increased risk of immediate harm – from injury, illness, assault, rape, and traffic accidents, among others – to say nothing of longer-term harm to their health and safety.
  • These ‘at-risk’ young people can end up in the hands of emergency services personnel – especially Victoria Police and ambulance service paramedics.
