Births, Deaths and Marriages

Established in 1853, the role of the Victorian Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is to:

  • record in perpetuity all births, adoptions, marriages, relationships and deaths occurring in the state of Victoria
  • register changes of name for people who were born or reside in Victoria
  • provide certificates of the above events to individuals.

The Registry also:

  • provides family history resources and products through VicHeritage
  • offers a civil marriage service through the Victorian Marriage Registry
  • collects and disseminates statistical information to authorised agencies.
