Road Safety

Despite achieving the three lowest road tolls in the past three years, road trauma is the leading cause of death among people aged 1-40 years.

Sadly, most people are killed as a result of speed, alcohol and drugs, or both.

The Department of Justice is working closely with Victoria Police, the TAC and VicRoads to drive down the number of people killed and injured, through the 'Arrive Alive' road safety strategy.

Even though the road toll has fallen by almost one-quarter since 2001 there is still a long way to go.
