Testing of cameras on Eastlink
You may see contractors carrying out testing of cameras on Eastlink this month.
This is part of scheduled quarterly testing carried out across the speed camera network.
Victoria has among the robust and rigorous camera testing regime in the world.
Quarterly testing has been in place in Victoria since 2005 and looks at both the primary and secondary speed measurement devices to measure speed accuracy and speed reliability. Sensor tests are also performed.
Quarterly testing is carried out in addition to yearly testing of cameras.
Every year, the speed measurement devices, which are the primary component of a speed camera that enables it to detect and measure a vehicle's travelling speed, are tested and certified. This is the testing that is required under the Road Safety (General) Regulations 1999.
