Product Warnings and Bans

New products can sometimes create potential hazards for the consumer. Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) plays a role in ensuring that consumer products are safe. This role includes:

  • implementing and enforcing mandatory standards and bans
  • investigating and testing potentially dangerous products
  • helping develop voluntary product standards with industry, government agencies and consumer organisations.

The CAV website provides a wide range of information on product safety, including:

  • detailed lists and descriptions of banned and regulated products
  • a voluntary product recall checklist
  • what to do if a product is recalled
  • useful forms, publications and contact information.
