Shopping from home

Consumer Affairs Victoria (CAV) provides consumers with information on their rights and responsibilities when shopping from home.

The CAV website details some of the traps consumers should be wary of, and also provides information on how to make the most of home shopping. Subjects covered include:

  • internet shopping, including tips and information about shopping online safely
  • mail order and direct marketing, including rules regarding telemarketers
  • door-to-door and 'contact sales' where the sale takes place at the consumer's workplace or private residence.

Lay-bys

The CAV website also provides consumers and traders with information about lay-by purchases, including:

  • lay-by contract requirements
  • cancelling a lay-by agreement
  • important questions to ask before putting something on lay-by.
