Intervention Order Statistics - Magistrates' and Children's Courts: 2002-03 to 2006-07

This publication presents statistics on complaints for an intervention order finalised in the Magistrates’ and Children’s Courts of Victoria from 2002-03 to 2006-07. It includes data on:

• the outcomes of complaints
• ages and sexes of aggrieved persons and defendants
• charges for breach of an intervention order.

During the period covered by this report, the Magistrates’ Court (Family Violence) Act 2004 and the Victoria Police Code of Practice into dealing with family violence matters by the police were introduced. The amendments to the legislation and introduction of the Victoria Police Code of Practice resulted in changes in the trends of complaints for an intervention order over the reporting period. Noticeable differences occurred primarily between 2003-04 and 2004-05.
