Civil Dispute Resolution and Review of Government Decisions

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) provides civil dispute resolution services and review of state and local government decisions, such as:

  • land valuation
  • licences to carry on businesses (including travel agents, motor car traders and others)
  • planning and environment
  • state taxation
  • various government decisions (relating to Transport Accident Commission decisions and freedom of information issues).

VCAT also deals with disputes about:

  • purchase and supply of goods and services
  • discrimination
  • domestic building works
  • guardianship and administration
  • legal profession services
  • residential and retail tenancies
  • consumer credit.

 


Who does this apply to? Victorians in dispute over civil matters and state/local government decisions.
Who provides this service? Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal
Who is eligible? Members of the Victorian community and those in dispute with members of the Victorian community.
What are the costs, if any? Costs vary, depending on the type of application. See the 'Fees' page on the VCAT website for details.
What are the key dates or times? Opening hours are 9am - 4.30pm, Monday to Friday (except public holidays).
