Review of the Gaming Machine Approval Process

In October 2006, the Victorian Government released Taking action on problem gambling, a five-year strategy to combat problem gambling in Victoria.

As part of this strategy, the government undertook to review the matters the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation (VCGR) considers when determining an application for approval of a new gaming venue or for an increase in the number of machines at an existing venue.

Gaming machine approvals: enhancing the decision making process outlines issues to be considered as part of the government’s review. It provides some background information on the existing gaming machine approval process and the role played by the various parties in that process. It also provides information about the processes used in other states.

Submissions were sought to assist in developing options for improving the approval process. Comments were invited on any of the issues raised in this discussion paper or on any other matter relevant to these issues.
