Opening Doors to Women Guide - WIRE

The Opening Doors to Women Guide has been produced by WIRE, women's information, in partnership with the Victorian Government to improve service delivery for women who are experiencing problem gambling and who are vulnerable through social isolation. The guide is an initiative funded under Taking Action on Problem Gambling, a strategy for combating problem gambling in Victoria, as part of action area one: Building Better Treatment Services.

In the development of the guide, women experiencing problem gambling and social isolation were interviewed to collect their stories and experiences. The research was also informed by the participation, knowledge and experience of health and welfare providers.

The guide presents a women-sensitive, service response model with principles and practical strategies to support organisations and workers. It is intended for any service or worker whose clients may be experiencing problem gambling and social isolation. The guide is also intended to facilitate learning in practice and it is anticipated that the model will be adapted by organisations as they implement its recommendations.
